The Kadjar first entered the Renault SUV lineup in 2015. There has been only a single generation of the compact crossover since then. It did, however, receive a facelift in 2018.
In 2022, Renault announced that the model would be discontinued early as a result of low sales. It was then replaced by its successor, the Renault Austral.
Sitting in the compact crossover class has put the Kadjar up against the likes of the Kia Sportage, Mazda CX-5, and the Nissan Qashqai. Such stiff competition in the crossover class means that it can be difficult for models to stay on the market in the face of low sales, which is exactly what happened for this Renault offering.
The model was offered with various trim levels over its time on the market. These include the Expression+, Dynamique Nav, Dynamique S Nav, Dynamique SE Nav, Signature Nav, and Signature S Nav.
Renault offered the model with various powertrains based on region and customer choice. Petrol options consisted of four options, including the 2.0 L inline-4 sold exclusively in China. Elsewhere, these engines range from a 1.2 L inline-4 through to a 1.6 L inline-4, all being turbocharged.
The three diesel options range from a 1.5 L inline-4 to a 1.7 inline-4.
Powertrains were mated with either a 6-speed manual, 7-speed automatic, or a CVT for the Chinese version.
In addition to low sales, the Kadjar was replaced to bring forward the fully-electric Austral model to the market.
