Classed as an executive car competing with the Mercedes E-Class and Lexus ES, the Volvo V70 came into production in the mid-1990s.

It was brought in to replace 2 of the Swedish car manufacturer's mid-size car lines: the 850 and the 940.

The V70 sits in the middle of the company's family car range between the V40 and V90.

Over the years a range of trims and engines ranging from around liter gasoline through to 2.5 liter diesel has made the car appeal to buyers in most regions and demographics.

A performance trim named "R" was sold among many of the generations for the V70 which included a larger displacement turbocharged engine and sports suspension and brakes.

In 2016 the car was discontinued with the V90 model taking over the mid-size executive car legacy in the company.

Includes the XC70/Cross Country station wagon trim that was sold during 2000, 2001 and 2002 which featured a more rugged body panel system, higher clearance and four-wheel drive.
