One of the most iconic Chevy models, the Suburban, first made its debut in 1946. However, its name began in 1934. This makes it the longest continuously used nameplate for any production vehicle to date.
Like a number of Chevy models, the Suburban is sold in select markets across the world. These include most of the Americas, as well as most of the Middle East.
Since then, there have been an astonishing 12 generations to be released. The first modern version was released in 1992 in its eighth generation, while the latest model was unveiled in 2021.
The full-size Suburban is also sold as a rebadged model under GMC, known as the Yukon XL. It also represents one of the model’s main rivals. Interestingly, the GMC variant is sold only within the United States.
Other competition includes the Jeep Wagoneer, Ford Expedition, and Nissan Armada.
Trim levels have changed over its long stay on the market, but the latest version is offered in LS, LT, RST, Premier and High Country.
Chevy also released a high-performance Z71 edition in 2001. This version is fitted with AWD, off-road tires, and a number of other features that are typical for premium SUVs. This version has become a staple of the line since then.
Engine options have obviously been so extensive it is tough to list all of them. However, this has been streamlined hugely for the 12th generation.
The latest version has been released with either a 5.3 L or 6.2 L V8 for gasoline options. There is also a considerably smaller turbocharged 3.0 L diesel inline-6
These have been mated with a 10-speed Hydra-Matic automatic.
