The Kamiq first entered the subcompact crossover market in 2019. Of course, only a single generation has been released since then.
There is another model sold in China that is sold by the same name, but these are essentially different vehicles altogether. The Chinese version is noticeably larger and is built on an old platform.
It is currently the smallest model in Skoda’s SUV family, sitting below both the Karoq and Enyaq.
Being under the VW umbrella means that it is built on the same platform as the VW T-Cross and SEAT Arona, which happen to be some of its main competitors.
This is the VW Group MQB A0 platform. This is the primary reason for the model being offered exclusively in FWD, as the platform cannot support AWD systems.
Other rivals include the Hyundai Kona and Citroen C3 Aircross.
The Kamiq is offered in a number of trim levels, most of which build onto one another. These consist of the SE, SE Drive, SE L, SE L Executive, and Monte Carlo. The Monte Carlo version offers sport styling and blacked-out features.
Powertrains include petrol, diesel, and flex-fuel options. The petrol engines include two 1.0 L inline-3 options, as well as a 1.5 L inline-4. The only diesel variant was a 1.6 L inline-4. Finally, the CNG version was a 1.0 L inline-3.
Most of these engines came courtesy of Skoda’s relationship with Volkswagen.
These engines were coupled with various transmissions depending on the engine in question. These included a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual, and a 7-speed DSG.
