The Chevrolet Colorado and the GMC Canyon are identical apart from the minor exterior and interior differences.

Both started out life as a compact pickup truck in 2003 before being reclassified in 2011 as a mid-size pickup truck, competing with the Jeep Gladiator and Ford Ranger.

These models were introduced to take over from the S-10 and S-15 pickup trucks from the same manufacturers.

When the cars were introduced they offered a wide range of engine choices ranging from a 2.5 liter turbocharged unit through to a torquey 5.3 liter V8.

Carrying over from its predecessor was the Xtreme trim that added aggressive styling and alloy wheels to set the version apart.

With the introduction of the second-generation Colorado in 2011, the Xtreme trim was dropped and engine choices were sat more in the middle of the previous range.

Transmissions in the current version of the truck include a 5 or 6-speed manual or a 6 or 8 speed automatic - popular with North American car buyers.

Underneath the latest version of the Chevrolet Colorado and the GMC Canyon is the same platform used by Isuzu D-Max.

Sales of the Colorado crashed around 2013 as the world was suffering from the global recession and high fluctuating oil prices.

Luckily the model managed to recover a lot of the sales and has experienced growth year-on-year since hitting new records yearly.
