Since the 1980's the Ranger model has been an entry-level pickup truck offered by Ford underneath its flagship F-150 and other F-Series trucks.

For many of the years in this century, the F-150 has been the best-selling car in North America so Ford knows how important it is to offer a range of them in that region.

Looking back at the first generation Ranger model you can see it was a very basic model lacking many comforts and styling features.

When the truck started to do well the American automobile manufacturer decided to invest resources in improving it giving it a face-lift at the end of the 1980s.

Then in the early 1990s, the truck was completely revamped and turned from a cheap alternative to the F-Series truck into a smaller more affordable option for buyers.

With styling cues like flared arches and comfort/safety features that rival the cars selling at the time it quickly took off and was sought after by younger drivers.

Sales continued to improve with each iteration of the pickup truck until the spike in oil prices just before the global recession in 2008 killed off much of the demand.

Over the years the demand has returned as Ford improve the fuel efficiency and aesthetics of the Ranger model further.
