The legendary Defender series first made its debut in 1983. From this point, it was sold by Land Rover until the Jaguar Land Rover merger in 2012.
Under the ownership of Jaguar Land Rover, the latest version was available between 2013 and 2016.
The model was later reintroduced under the new Defender badge in 2020.
Between 2001 and 2022, there have been two different versions on the market. These are the old-school utility versions, which go by the grades of 90, 110, and 127 models, as well as the new L663 version that was released in 2020.
The Defender has become an icon among the SUV class, which has led to fierce competition. The most notable competitors consist of the Toyota Land Cruiser, Jeep Wrangler, and Mercedes G-Class.
Trim levels for the new version consist of the Standard, S, SE, XS, HSE, X, V8, and V* Carpathian Edition.
There are also extra optional extra packs. These are the Explorer, Adventure, Urban, and Country.
There have been a number of different engines available for the first series.
These include engines going from the turbocharged 2.2 L inline-4 and going up to a 2.5 L inline-5 version for the diesels. Petrol engines have ranged from a 2.8 L inline-6 to a supercharged 5.0 L V8.
Powertrains for the new Defender have ranged from a turbocharged 2.0 L inline-4 to a turbocharged 3.0 L mild-hybrid inline-6. There is also the 5.0 L V8, as well as a plug-in hybrid version of the smaller petrol engine.
Due to Land Rover’s interesting ownership history, these different engines have been manufactured by BMW, Jaguar, Land Rover, and even Ford.
