The X2 made its debut fairly recently at the end of 2017. Since then, only a single generation has been released.
Sales of the model start just a few months later in 2018.
The X2 is often considered a more stylized coupe version of the X1. This is because of shared mechanical components like the same UKL2 architecture, which is countered by the sportier styling.
As its name indicates, it sits below other popular models in the BMW SUV lineup like the X3 and X5.
Interestingly, the X2 was created with the purpose of going up against the hugely popular Range Rover Evoque. It should also come as no surprise that it faces competition from BMW’s rivals. This includes the Audi Q3 and Mercedes GLA.
There have been multiple powertrains available, even for just a single generation. These have consisted of a 1.5 L inline-3 or a 2.0 L inline-4. These are the same capacities for both diesel and petrol and all of these are turbocharged.
These engines have been fitted with various transmissions. These consist of a 6-speed manual, 7-speed dual-clutch, and 8-speed automatic gearbox.
A hybrid variant of the smaller engine was also released in 2020. This was fitted to the X2 xDrive25e model. This plug-in hybrid version was fitted with a 70 kW electric motor.
The model is currently offered with both sDrive and xDrive, which are FWD and AWD respectively. These count as the various trim levels, with the addition of the M35i variant, which is the top-spec model. There was also the standard M Sport package found on so many other BMWs.
