In mid-1953 the first Chevrolet Corvette was produced after the company received great feedback for a concept car.

Sales were slow at first but quickly took off once the company added a V8 option forcing Ford and Studebaker to create rival models to keep up.

Over the years the car was further pushed in terms of performance and quickly started to ride the wave of muscle cars that were becoming popular.

In the 1960s the Corvette started competing with the Ford Mustang and Dodge Charger that were appealing to the same sort of thrill-seeking customer.

Things were going great for these sorts of cars in America as car buyers had more cash to buy multiple cars and run large displacement engines.

This was until the mid-1970s when oil prices in the USA quadrupled over 3 years and people had to think carefully before buying a powerful car.

Unlike many muscle cars, the Chevrolet Corvette stuck to what it did best and remained a sports car, whereas many other models adapted into compact cars with smaller engines to retain sales.

Now the car is in its eighth generation as of 2020 and looks better than ever with amazing comfort and safety features.

Under the hood is a V8 capable of putting out almost 500bhp to the rear wheels and a convertible version is available with an electric-retractable roof.
