This new minivan design that emerged in 2016 shouldn’t be confused with the discontinued crossover SUV Pacifica that was stopped back in 2008.
It has also available in both gasoline and form. The engine offering is a 3.6L Pentastar V6 as standard, but the plug-in hybrid version also features a 16-kWh lithium-ion battery, giving it 33 miles of electric-only range.
The model took over from the aging Town & Country line of minivans that proved successful for many years but the auto manufacturer wanted to do a serious modernization and that required a new name.
It runs on a 9-speed automatic transmission and started in its earliest days as a very affordable family van option well under $30,000 for the base model.
Its PHEV version was the first of its kind in the US market, and the same PHEV became the car of choice in 2017 for Waymo to test their driverless cars.
The Pacifica received a major facelift in 2021, and not only looks sleeker but now comes with AWD for the gasoline model, as well as a new infotainment system, Amazon Alexa connectivity and more.
They even added a new trim, “Pinnacle,” which gave leather seats, additional quilted pillows for the second row and additional exterior accents.
As a family car, it was hard to fault on safety, receiving top marks from both the NHTSA and the IIHS.
It’s no wonder, then, that Chrysler has sold more than 400,000 units in the US alone as of 2020.
Those looking at this model from 2020 will notice that the new L and LX models are now badged as the Chrysler Voyager.
It’ll manage up to 22mpg combined with the gasoline version, but the plug-in hybrid stretches that up to 32mpg.
