The Kia Cadenza is a full-size executive sedan car first launched back in 2009 as a replacement for the Kia Opirus (aka Kia Amanti). By 2014, the Kia Cadenza was on sale in multiple global markets, including South Korea, the US, Canada, China, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, and other select markets in the Middle East. Manufacturing on the production model ceased in 2021, after which time it has only been produced as a fleet vehicle.

In total there have been 2 generations of Kia Cadenza, the first of which was launched in 2009, and the second in 2016. The first generation offered powertrains ranging from 2.4-liter to 3.5-liter in gasoline engines, with 2.7-liter and 3-liter diesel options also available. All of these were paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The most powerful variant (Lambda II 3.5L MPI) reached up to 286-hp and 250 lb-ft of torque.

The second generation brought additional hybrid and LPG models to the mix, with the most powerful model now being a Lambda II 3.3 GDI capable of reaching 290-hp and 253 lb-ft of torque. The second generation also received a top 5-star from the US Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and was one of their “Top Safety Pick+” selections.

Despite its strong safety features, pleasing interior, and even a facelift in 2019, sales in the US market were never as strong as they were in South Korea. It only managed to sell 1,265 units in the US in 20202, and only 1,630 in 2019 before the effects of the pandemic were being felt. It never reached the 40,000-50,000-unit averages that it achieved year on year in Korea.

Its discontinuation as a regular passenger car thus gives buyers a unique opportunity to find great examples of used models that boast Kia’s signature mix of affordability and style. Facelifted models in 2019 got nice exterior and interior upgrades, including a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen.
