Bigger than the NX but smaller than the GX is the Lexus RX which entered production in the late 1990s.

It started life as a compact crossover SUV like the NX (which eventually took over this spot) but grew into a mid-size crossover in 2003.

Different engine choices have come and gone for the RX but on today's model, you can opt for a 2 liter turbocharged or 3.5 liter V6 with or without hybrid fitted.

A manual transmission has also never been offered for the SUV though after the first generation you could choose a CVT to smoothly change gear.

The current fourth-generation RX was released in 2014 and saw styling additions that really set it apart from the competition with an eye-catching grille and flared arches.

As of 2017, the SUV can be purchased as a slightly longer vehicle with 3 rows of foldable seating fitted to seat 7 passengers.

In terms of standard safety equipment as of 2020, the car is packed full of it, including blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alerts.

Safety ratings have always been pretty good for the luxurious Lexus RX with the main hurdle it faced being rollover risk like many other tall SUVs.
