The Mercedes Benz B-Class is classed as a subcompact executive MPV possessing the benefits of an MPV while being small and low-cost to run.

Comparing it to the A-Class model by the same German automobile manufacturer you will notice many similarities in design.

Engine choices though are larger for the B-Class to match its greater overall size and weight.

When Mercedes Benz attempted to satisfy a regulation put in place by California to reduce overall emissions by automobile manufacturers they went to the A-Class as their ideal battery-powered car.

Unfortunately, the A-Class was just too small and so the B-Class was the next logical choice - helping push the development of this model into full swing.

What appeared on showrooms was a slightly larger A-Class with similar methods of design - such as the sandwich floor design that is popular in cars today seeking a location for heavy batteries close to the ground.

First-generation models of the B-Class did not allow for an electricity-powered option but the fuel-driven engines were very efficient.

When the second generation models hit the road in 2011 buyers found the addition of the BlueEFFICIENCY technology that captured lost energy from braking then recycled it during acceleration.

Alongside this hybrid system was a full-electric powered version called the Electric Drive which used a Tesla drive-train before Mercedes Benz developed their own system.
