The 301 first made its debut all the way back in 1932. It was then reintroduced in 2012. It has then remained on the market ever since.

Since its release, there has only been a single generation released. However, the model did receive a facelift in 2017.

It is currently sold in various markets across the world. This includes some parts of Asia, Africa, Latin America, as well as Eastern and Central Europe. It is also sold alongside the Citroën C-Elysée, which happens to be its corporate twin.

There is also the IKCO Tara, which has been manufactured by Iran Khodro since 2021 for the Iranian market.

Interestingly, the 301 was released as the successor to the sedan version of the Peugeot 207. This puts it in the subcompact car class.

Competition for the model comes from the Fiat Tipo, Toyota Corolla, and, of course, its twin.

The 301 is currently offered only as a 4-door sedan. This is fitted with a FWD drivetrain and is built on the PSA PF1 platform.

Engine options have consisted of only two petrol and a single diesel engine. The petrol versions start with a 1.2 L inline-3 and go to a 1.6 L inline-4. The diesel option is a 1.6 L inline-4. Both the smaller of the petrol engines, as well as the diesel engine, is offered in multiple tuning options.

These have been mated with various gearboxes, including a 5-speed manual, a 4-speed automatic, and a 6-speed automatic transmission.
