Renault has targeted the city car sector using the Twingo line since the early 1990s.

It has competed against the likes of other city cars such as the Kia Picanto and Fiat Panda for many years.

Now in their third generation of design, the car has come along leaps and bounds since then and although they have kept the same shape the car is drastically different.

What started out as a front-wheel-drive front-engine car is now a rear-wheel-drive rear-engine offering based on the same platform as the smart forfour and smart fortwo.

All 3 of the modern sister cars are built in the same assembly plant in Slovenia since 2014 and then exported around the world.

The main downside to the new rear-engine layout is the reduced boot space though this should not be such a problem for those looking for such a small city car.

Mounting the engine in the rear does have some benefits though including handling and easy access for maintenance.

All models sold today are a 5 door hatchback with the choice of either a 900cc turbocharged engine or a 1-liter natural-aspirated unit.

Buyers do have control over the level of features and comfort by choosing from one of four trims: Expression, Play, Dynamique and Dynamique S.
