The Fiat Panda has had a long fruitful life since its introduction in 1980 as a replacement for the Fiat 126.

Original Panda's were extremely boxy and basic in design helping keep costs low and appeal to those wanting a small, cheap runabout.

Over the years the car was morphed into a variety of special editions including the sought-after Panda 4x4 that brought light off-road capabilities to a hatchback.

SEAT at points offered their own version of the Panda called the Marbella or Trans depending on the layout (Trans was a taller vehicle).

Production of the car stopped in 1995 and the model was put to rest.

Then after almost 10 years in hibernation the Panda re-awoke sporting a much more modern design and larger body to incorporate the necessary safety and comfort features we have come to demand.

Sales of the new version started off weak but after a few years, the trend moved towards a quart of a million units selling each year which has continued since.

The Panda serves its niche well especially as the manufacturer revived the special editions including a new 100hp trim that appeals to fans of hot hatches.

"4x4" trims of the car have been available across all 3 generations of evolution and appeal to those who want a light off-road vehicle that could be used day to day without consuming a lot of fuel.
