Sales began for the Chevrolet Tahoe in 1992 when the company decided it needed a shorter wheelbase version of the popular Suburban SUV.
This new model was available as a 5 door suitable for family use or a more sporty 3 door popular as a replacement for the Blazer or Ford Bronco.
The Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon are the same vehicles mechanically sold under the 2 brands with only minor differences.
Engines back in the 1990s for the SUV were big V8's ranging from 4.2 litres through to a 6.5 liter offering.
These engines were mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.
In 2008 a hybrid option was added to the order sheet to help make the car more affordable to run although it was paired with a huge 6 liter V8 engine.
Over the years the Tahoe SUV evolved into a more luxurious vehicle and kept these large engine sizes that are popular with buyers of that sort of car.
The newest generation released in 2021 has a 10-speed automatic transmission and underneath shares its platform with the Silverado pickup truck.#
Sales seem to have peaked during the turn of the century when oil prices were much lower and the booming world economy allowed for extravagant cars like this one.
Although sales did crash with the global economy in 2008 they have recovered significantly thanks to the adopting of hybrid and fuel-efficient upgrades.
