The 2 Series is one of the newer models to be released by BMW, first starting production at the end of 2013.
Since its first release, there have been two generations to hit the markets. The second of these was unveiled in 2021.
There have been a fairly wide number of body styles implemented for the 2 Series range. The first of these was the standard 2-door coupe and convertible. These styles got a further update with the release of the Gran Coupe in 2019.
This was quickly followed by the Active Tourer and Grand Tourer in 2014. This was a 5-door compact MPV.
Another notable version is the M2, which is a high-performance model. This model was unveiled in 2015 and stayed on the market until its brief discontinuation. It then came back to the market in 2023. This version is also offered in the M2 Competition and CS trim levels.
Competition from other models in the class include the Audi A3, Acura Integra, and Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class.
Like other BMW models, trims are based on the engine choice. These range from the 218i up to the M240i or M240i xDrive.
There have been both petrol and diesel engine options for the 2 Series.
Petrol variants have ranged between a 1.5 L inline-4 through to a 2.0 L inline-4. However, there has also been the 3.0 L inline-6 that is used for the high-performance M2. Diesel options have included both a 1.5 L inline-4 and a 2.0 L inline-4.
These engines are coupled with 6-speed manuals, 7-speed dual-clutch, and 8-speed automatic transmissions.
