The Buick Enclave and its sister model the Chevrolet Traverse are a pair of 3-row mid-size crossover SUVs.
They were both brought in to replace several aging SUV lines and condense them into one shared project - including the Buick Rendezvous and the Chevrolet TrailBlazer.
Bringing several model lines into one has the benefit of being able to assign more of GM's resources to research and develop it further.
The first examples of these new SUVs were classed as full-size but in the second generation, the car was classed as mid-size thanks to the lighter-weight chassis and shorter height.
Originally the first version of the Enclave restricted you to have one size of the engine, a 3.6 liter V6 mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
With the introduction of the second-generation in 2018, the American automobile manufacturer added a smaller 2 liter engine to help it sell in China due to their car tax based on displacement.
Another new addition for the second generation is the option for smart-AWD whereby the car drives in front-wheel-drive normally then switches on the powered rear axle when traction is lost.
Sales of the car peaked around 2015 and have slowly fallen since being propped up by the growing Chinese middle-class to help numbers.
