The Buick Verano was on sale in the USA between the years 2011 and 2016 though can still be found on sale in China.
Much like how Cadillac had recently experimented unsuccessfully with front-wheel-drive cars like the ATS and CTS, the company tried to enter the sedan market with a similar offering of their own.
Using the same platform as the Chevrolet Cruze and Opel Zafira the company created its own front-wheel-drive sedan that was slightly lighter than a rear-wheel-drive version.
It did not prove successful in North America selling 45,000 Buick Verano's in its best year before sales petered out quickly.
Sales also peaked in 2015 for the Chinese region too, though that number was over 10 times the amount sold in the USA leading the company to carry on with this successful offering.
A second-generation Verano was released (just for China) and this time they tailored it better for the Chinese market including smaller displacement turbocharged engine options.
Demand for crossover cars is strong in North America and Canada and keeps growing, leading the customers who would have bought the Verano to buy cars like the Encore.
