The EcoSport first made its debut in 2003 as Ford’s entrant to the subcompact crossover SUV class. Since its release, there have been only two generations to be unveiled. The second of these made its debut over a decade ago in 2012.

Despite being released at the beginning of the 2000s, the model only made its way into the North American market in 2018.

Fairly shortly after, Ford announced that 2022 would be the final year of production for the EcoSport globally. This was done to make way for the Ford Maverick in the US market and reduce costs in other regions.

For those with a keen eye, there are a lot of similarities with the hugely popular Ford Fiesta which it is based on. This was so apparent that it was often considered as simply a taller version of the hatchback.

Sitting in the subcompact crossover class meant that the model faced some fierce competition. The most notable of these included the Renault Duster, Honda HR-V, and Chevrolet Trax.

Powertrains consisted of a number of both petrol and diesel options. For petrol lovers, engines started with a 995 cc inline-3 and ran up to a 2.0 L inline-4. Diesel options were limited to two different turbocharged 1.5 L options.

Transmissions consisted of the typical Ford offerings. These were a 5-speed or 6-speed manual, as well as automatic transmissions ranging from 4-speed to 6-speed. There was also a 6-speed dual-clutch offered.

Trim levels for the EcoSport consist of the typical Ford offerings - depending on region. Most places received the Ambiente, Trend, and Titanium packages. Others received the S, SE, SES, as well as the premium Titanium.
