The Seltos was first unveiled in 2019 as Kia’s attempt to capitalize on the growing demand for crossover SUVs. In fact, Kia even stated that the model is aimed at the millennial demographic.

Of course, there has been only a single generation since then, but it did receive a facelift in 2022.

There is also a Seltos SP2i model, but this is not considered a different generation or model. This is simply the name of the model that is made in the Indian plant. The regular SP2 is the codename given to all models manufactured in South Korea.

The model currently sits in the middle of Kia’s SUV family, between the smaller Stonic, Soul, or Sonet (depending on region) and the larger Sportage.

Competition from outside of Kia comes from the Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-30, and Subaru Crosstrek.

Kia offers the Seltos in five trim levels. These consist of the base LX, followed by the S, S Turbo, Ex, and SX Turbo.

AWD comes as standard for all trim levels, except for the base S. Kia does offer AWD as an additional extra for the base version.

There have been a variety of powertrain options, including a number of petrol and two diesel options.

Petrol engines range from a 1.4 L inline-4 through to a 2.0 L inline-4, while diesel options consist of either a 1.5 L inline-4 or a 1.6 L inline-4.

Transmissions for the Seltos include a 6-speed gearbox in either manual or automatic. A dual-clutch 7-speed is also available. There is also Kia’s Intelligent Variable Transmission, which is a continuously variable transmission system.
