Brought in for the 1999 model year, the Lexus IS was introduced as an entry-level sport model for the brand.
It did have a short life as the Toyota Altezza in Japan for a year before being rebranded as a Lexus.
The car sees stiff competition from other sport executive cars such as the BMW 3 series and the Mercedes C-Class.
The first generation IS models had only gasoline engines though buyers could choose from a variety of transmissions, manual or automatic.
Body styles also varied with the option of an estate/station wagon or convertible instead of the standard saloon/sedan.
When the second generation hit Lexus showrooms in 2006 the car was drastically altered, no longer could customers choose the poorly selling station wagon layout.
Engine choices were expanded to include diesel and a high-performance 5 liter V8 "F" sports trim became available.
Then in 2013, the company launched the most recent version of the IS range and again seriously shook up the offering available.
Many of the cars sold contained hybrid technology alongside the impressive in-dashboard computer with GPS and multimedia.
Underneath the newer cars is an Adaptive Variable suspension system so the car can better react to its environment based upon the setting you choose from the dashboard.
For the 2020 model year, the Lexus IS received a face-lift improving exterior styling and adding new mobile device connectivity for both Apple and Android devices.
