The Rifter first entered the market as the third generation of the already existing Peugeot Partner. This all came to pass at the 2018 Geneva Auto Show.

Since then, there has only been a single generation of the model under its new name.

Like a number of models under the PSA Group, there are multiple rebadged and restyled versions of the model. These offerings from Citroen Berlingo, Opel/Vauxhall Combo, and Toyota ProAce City all form part of the Rifter’s main competition. There is also the Fiat Doblo which was unveiled in 2022.

This relatively new MPV is offered in just three trim levels. These are the base Active, followed by the Allure, and finally the GT Line.

The single-generation model has been fitted with just three engine options as well. The only petrol option is a 1.5 L inline-4, while diesel versions come with the choice of either a 1.5 L inline-4 or a 1.6 L inline-4.

These have been mated with either a 5-speed or 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Despite boasting only a single generation as of yet, there has also been an all-electric version called the e-Rifter. This variant was first unveiled in 2021, alongside its cousins, the Citroen e-Berlingo, Opel Combo-e, and Toyota ProAce City Electric.

This version is fitted with a 100 kW PMSM electric motor that is coupled with a 50 kWh lithium-ion battery.

There are also rumors that mild-hybrid powertrains can be expected to be released from 2023 onwards.
