Taking over from the Windstar line, the Ford Freestar was an MPV that is carrying on from a 10 year legacy before it.
The name changing was purely down to a rebranding by the Ford Motor Company to make sure all of their model's names started with an "F".
For the 10 years previous to its introduction, the Freestar was known as the Windstar - it was the same MPV and used the same platform - but now the car had a major $600 million investment behind it.
Sales for the first year were great seeing just over 100,000 units sold in its first year but the tides turned quickly.
After 2 more years of disappointing sales, the Freestar was discontinued and customers were turned towards the Transit Connect modified to carry passengers.
Car buyers were moving away from minivans and MPV's and steering towards the growing selection of crossover SUVs that dominated the market.
Ford decided to focus more on the growing crossover SUV market using their range such as the Edge and the Escape.
