The A5 entered the market in 2007 and has remained on the market since then. Only two generations have been unveiled during its time on the market. The second and latest of these was released in 2017.

As its name suggests, the A5 sits between the near the middle of the Audi car lineup. It is larger than the A4 but smaller than the larger offerings like the A8.

It has typically been offered in a 2-door coupe and cabriolet layout, as well as the 5-door Sportback version.

Trim levels for the A5 have typically consisted of 3 packages. These are the base Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. Of course, there are also the high-performance variants like the S5 and the RS5, the latter of which was released in 2010.

Despite having only two generations, the A5 received a facelift in both 2011 and 2019.

Both generations of the model were offered with petrol and diesel engines.

Petrol variants ranged from the smallest 1.4 L inline-4 through to the 4.2 L V8 found in the high-performance variants, but these were dropped to just a turbocharged 3.0 L V6 for the second generation.

Diesel engines consistently ranged between a 2.0 L inline-4 and various 3.0 L V6s.

Transmissions have varied over the years. There have been 6-speed manual options, as well as automatics ranging between 6-speed and 8-speed. There has even been a Multitronic CVT used for the first generation.

Competition for the model has, of course, come from Audi’s German rivals. These include the BMW 4-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe. Some have even considered the Ford Mustang to be a rival in the US market.
