Audi’s offering for the immensely popular subcompact crossover class, the Q2, made its debut in 2016. Despite such a huge demand for crossovers, VW AG announced that the model would be discontinued in 2023 just six years after its initial release.

During its time on the market, only a single generation was released. However, the model was given a facelift in 2020.

As its name suggests, it was positioned at the bottom of the German carmaker’s SUV lineup, putting it below the Q3 and Q5. Competition from outside of Audi obviously comes from notable rivals - the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA. The Volkswagen T-Roc also comes to mind.

Audi released a number of standard trim levels for the model. These start with the base SE, followed by Sport and S line. There was also the Edition #1, which was a limited package.

Another notable version is the Q2L e-Tron, which is an all-electric version for the Chinese market. This was released in 2019.

The 5-door model was fitted with a number of petrol and diesel engines. Petrol offerings start with a 1.0 L inline-3 and go up to a 2.0 L inline-4. On the diesel side of things, a 1.6 L and 2.0 L inline-4 were offered. All of these engines were turbocharged.

Based on the trim selection, these engines were mated with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed or 8-speed automatic transmission.

Audi’s decision to withdraw the model came as a result of poor sales and the desire to focus more on EVs and larger models in the SUV family.
