Over the last 60 years, the Dodge Charger has gone through many changes and re-classifications.

Originally a concept car was put out by the company which due to demand was put into production and delivered to customers remarkably very much the same as hoped (rare for concept cars put out by auto manufacturers).

First Charger models were a mid-size car hitting the roads in the mid-1960s alongside competition such as the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Corvette.

Then in the early 1980s, the badge was used on a compact car that was introduced as a way to have a sporty small car that was hoped to ride the wave of higher fuel prices.

It wasn't until the model was revived in 2006 that the car returned to its pony/muscle roots and was reclassified again as a full-size car targeting nostalgic buyers.

Engine options for the newer classic-shaped models included V6's and V8's rather than the fuel-efficient options that were offered in the 1980s.

All-wheel-drive was also offered for the first time and transmissions were automatic-only though a manual shifting feature was added to some versions.

The most recent version is the 7th generation model that continued the revival of the original design but improved it dramatically - moving from a general car to a more sports car appearance.

Special editions of the Charger have come and gone during its existence with the most famous being the Hellcat and Daytona.
