The B-Max, stylized as the B-MAX, first entered the minivan class in 2012. Only a single generation of the model was released before its discontinuation was announced.

While still on the market today, Ford halted production in 2017 as a result of declining sales. This is the same fate faced by a number of minivans due to the increasing popularity of crossovers stealing demand, essentially relegating minivans to the past.

The model received fairly unanimous praise upon its release. A number of reviewers commended the B-Max for bringing some new features to a fairly stagnant class. The two most commonly highlighted of these were twin sliding side doors and a lack of a central B-pillar.

The model itself is based heavily on the hugely popular Ford Fiesta, which can be seen with a number of styling cues.

Competition from other superminivans typically came from the likes of the Fiat 500L, Opel Meriva, Citroen C3 Picasso, and Kia Venga.

The 5-door layout sits on top of Ford’s global B-car platform and is offered in only FWD.

Sharing the same DNA as the Fiesta means that the B-Max was also praised for offering a fairly good drive, despite being a minivan.

Powertrains range from a modest turbocharged 1.0 L inline-3 to a 1.6 inline-4 on the petrol side. Diesel options consisted of either a 1.5 L inline-4 or a 1.6 L inline-4 Duratorq. Of course, both of these were turbocharged.

These were mated with either a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.

Trim levels for the B-Max consisted of the Studio, Zetec, and Ford’s premium Titanium packages.
