For 20 years the Ford Crown Victoria was a common sight on the roads of the United States of America.

Specially adapted law enforcement versions were sold and were popular with police forces for both undercover and patrol work.

The model took over from the old boxy LTD Crown Victoria model that ran from early 1980 until the introduction of this car in 1991.

Outside, the new car sported a much more aerodynamic body though kept the same dimensions with a slightly smaller displacement engine.

Customers could no longer request a station wagon with this new model though due to the decline of its popularity.

Unfortunately for Ford the new Crown Victoria never regained the sales success of the previous version for the 20 years it was in service, being discontinued in 2011.

The 1980's version managed to sell more units in the 10 years it ran than this newer model in its 20 years life.

Ford switched their resources to the Taurus and Fusion lines for buyers looking for an American family car.
