As the South-Korean automobile manufacturer's flagship compact sports car, the Hyundai Veloster has been going strong since its introduction in 2011.
Competing in this field against the likes of the Toyota GT86 but with the traditional lower price tag associated with cars from this country.
It was introduced to replace the Tiburon model that had served the company well for 12 or so years from the mid-1990s.
The Veloster features a quirky design not seen on any other car with one door on the driver's side and 2 on the passenger side.
Inspiration for this 3 passenger door design came from the commercial truck and van designs.
First-generation models were available with a 1.6 liter naturally aspirated or turbocharged engine mated to a 6 speed automatic, 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
With the introduction of the second-generation Veloster in 2018, the options expanded to include a 1.4 or 1.6 turbocharged gasoline engine or a 2 liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine.
Transmission options for the second model were also revised to include a 6 or 7-speed automatic or a 7 or 8-speed dual-clutch.
Unfortunately, the release of the second generation had a negative effect on sales with new record lows being hit for the year and the several years following.
Motoring publications scored the new model pretty low citing the car as less than exciting, removing the point of it being in the compact sports car category.
