Among the range of crossover SUV's from Mazda the CX-7 slots in near the top (in terms of size) just under the slightly larger CX-8.

Customers got delivery of the first examples in the model year of 2007 and found that underneath the body was the same platform as the Ford Focus and Mazda3.

Engine options were slightly limited when the CX-7 was released with a choice of 3 similar sized engines: 2.3/2.5 litre gasoline or a 2.2 litre turbocharged diesel engine mated to a 5/6 speed automatic or a 6 speed manual transmission.

The car did receive a face-lift in 2009 in-line with many other cars in the Mazda fleet but this did not help sales and so the range model was discontinued in 2012.

Dropping the CX-7 range led to the release of the CX-5 a year later that was better tuned to the needs of car buyers at the time.

Those wanting a three row SUV should look to the CX-8 that took over from this car as the CX-5 has only 2 rows of seating.
