The quirky-designed Toyota FJ Cruiser was actually built on the Land Cruiser platform and shares many of the same mechanical parts.
It all started as a concept car at the North American International Auto Show where the public first caught a glimpse of the FJ Cruiser design.
Due to massive demand, the company decided to make the concept car a reality and so put the unique body shape on an already successful chassis.
Production of this new car started in 2006 with just left-hand-drive models being built and exported.
A right-hand-drive version wouldn't be pushed out until 2010 when sales in Japan and the UK began - the largest left-hand-drive markets.
Just one version of the car has been released so far with little changes made to its exterior appearance.
The Toyota FJ Cruiser is classed as a mid-size SUV and competes against cars such as the Skoda Kodiak and the Dodge Journey.
In Japan, the car was discontinued in early 2018 though exports are still happening to the rest of the world in both "hand-drive" regions.
Safety ratings for the FJ Cruiser are pretty good with many disciplines scoring 5 out of 5 stars but the overall score is being held back by a 3 out of 5 stars for rollover risk and 4 out of 5 for "frontal passenger".
