Selling from late 2000 all the way to this day is the Toyota Sequoia, a full-size SUV built on the Tundra platform.

It was built to take on the goliath models sold in the North American region such as the Ford Expedition that was seeing massive sales and great earning potential.

For around 4 years after the Sequoia was introduced the car saw amazing sales though nothing like the Expedition saw.

A spike in oil prices and a looming global recession hit the sales of large cars hard and so the offering by Toyota never managed to experience its true glory.

Sales never recovered and so the Sequoia has sat as a niche offering by the Japanese automobile manufacturer.

It has gone through two generations of redesign during its lifetime with the second being launched in 2008.

First-generation cars had one choice of engine, a 4.7 litre 8 mated to 4 to 5-speed automatic transmission and powering all four wheels full-time.

With the introduction of the second-generation came an even larger 5.7 liter option and transmissions were revised upwards slightly to a 5 or 6 speed automatic.

Safety ratings for the current Toyota Sequoia are pretty good scoring 4 out of 5 stars overall falling back slightly on the rollover risk associated with taller cars like SUVs''s.
