The Honda Ridgeline acts as the company's flagship pickup truck with the only other offering they have being a mini-pickup truck called the Acty.

It started life in 2006 on a new platform built using a strong yet light unibody frame with the engine mounted transversely.

Designers set out to create a pickup truck that occupied the grey zone between that car class with the rapidly growing SUV sector.

Essentially the company took an SUV body (Acura MDX) that worked well and fixed a bed to it so that it could serve the best of both worlds.

Initially, the Ridgeline did well selling over 50,000 units worldwide in 2006 before sliding downwards as the oil prices spiked in the 2000's.

After the dust settled from the global recession in 2008 the sales struggled to pick back up again and the car was updated in 2017 to tackle this problem.

What designers did was take the body from the Honda Pilot and fix the bed to that this time causing sales to double overnight.

The new Honda Ridgeline was lighter and catered better to modern-day SUV buyers who wanted the benefits of that sort of car mixed with an added flatbed in the back.

It does lack the towing capacity you would expect from a pickup truck though for drivers who aren't looking for a towing vehicle but want to carry around some light cargo its great.
