The Grandeur first made its debut all the way back in 1985. The model was the flagship model from the South Korean carmaker for a time, until the release of the Hyundai Dynasty.

It has also been sold as the Azera in markets like the United States and Canada. However, this version was discontinued in 2017 when the model was pulled out of these regions.

Since its release, there have been a total of seven generations to hit the markets. The latest of these was unveiled in 2022.

The latest of these generations is offered in just three trim packages. These levels start with the Premium, followed by the Exclusive, and finally the Calligraphy.

The main competition for the Grandeur/Azera actually comes from Hyundai’s luxury sub-brand Genesis. Models like the G90 sit near the top of its list of competitors.

Other rivals include luxury German models like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series, and Audi A8.

The latest version of the model has been fitted with only a few engines, unlike many other Hyundai offerings that feature a wide array of powertrains.

Petrol versions consist of either a 2.5 L inline-4 or a punchy 3.5 L V6. There is also a 1.6 L inline-4 hybrid version, as well as a 3.5 L V7 LPG variant.

Hyundai did manufacture a diesel version of the Grandeur, but this was retired during the sixth generation. This came in 2018.

These engines have been coupled exclusively with automatic gearboxes since 2005. These typically include 6-speed and 8-speed options.
