The Mazda CX-30 first made its debut in only 2019. Of course, this means that only a single generation has been released since.

The subcompact crossover currently sits between the smaller CX-3 and larger CX-5, depending on the market in question.

Competition from other subcompact crossovers comes from models like the Hyundai Kona, Kia Soul, Volkswagen T-Roc, and Honda HR-V.

Despite being only a single-generation model, Mazda has offered the CX-30 with a fairly wide range of trim options. These range from the 2.5 S, Select, Preferred, and Premium.

There is also a base, Premium, and Premium Plus trim package for the turbocharged 2.5 L engine.

Mazda also released a special edition trim package called Carbon Edition, which is available in certain markets. This featured a number of trim options that were exclusive to this package.

Engine options consist of the typical Mazda options, ranging from the 2.0 L to the turbocharged 2.5 L engines found in the Skyactiv-G range. Mazda also included the 2.0 L Skyactiv-X inline-4, a new model of engine that they manufacture. Diesel engines are limited to only the 1.8 L Skyactiv-D inline-4.

Transmission options consist of either a Skyactiv-MT manual or Skyactiv-Drive automatic. Both of these gearboxes are 6-speeds.

The model has received widespread praise, which is no short feat given the huge amount of crossovers emerging these days.

In 2020, it received the Red Dot Design Award, along with a number of other design awards.

Its design was not the only feature that was loved. It also received several Car of the Year awards and ranked first in 2022 by the U.S. News & World Report for subcompact crossovers.
