The Micra entered the market all the way back in 1983. The model came as the replacement for the Nissan Cherry.
Since that time, five generations of the supermini. The latest of these was first unveiled in 2016. The first generation was given the internal designation of K10. Each generation followed this, with the second generation, which came in 1992, being the K11.
The model has typically featured either a 3-door or 5-door hatchback layout. However, the latest versions are sold exclusively as 5-door models.
Competition for the Micra has typically come from other popular superminis like the Kia Picanto.
However, the latest iteration saw such a change in the model that its competition also changed. For the sixth generation, competition typically comes from the Ford Fiesta, Volkswagen Polo, and SEAT Ibiza.
Powertrain options are appropriately miniature. Of course, there have been a wide number of options over its time on the market.
For the latest version, the smallest petrol option is a turbocharged 898 cc inline-3, while the largest is only a turbocharged 999 cc inline-3. There is also a 1.5 L inline-4 diesel option.
These have been paired with a 5-speed or 6-speed manual or an Xtronic continuously variable transmission.
Trim levels consist of just three options. These are Acenta, N-Sport, and top-of-the-line Tekna.
Despite the Micra’s long stay on the market and relative success, it appears its days are numbered. Since about 2019, various markets have announced that they are discontinuing the model. This is a likely indication that Nissan will halt production altogether in the near future.
