The first generation of the Titan entered the market in 2003. Since then, only a single new generation has been unveiled.
The latest version was first shown at the 2015 North American International Auto Show. This second Titan was then released in 2016.
Despite boasting only two generations, the model also received a significant refresh and facelift in 2020.
The Titan is currently sold only in the North American market, like most other full-size pickup trucks.
Like almost every other pickup truck, it is offered in a 2-door single cab, 4-door King Cab (extended), and 4-door crew cab. Trim levels consist of the base S, SV, Pro-4X, SL, and Platinum Reserve.
There was also a heavy-duty diesel variant called the Titan XD, which is typically used for more commercial applications than personal.
Competition for the Titan typically comes from the likes of other popular American full-size pickups. These include the Chevy Silverado, RAM 1500, GMC Sierra, and of course, the Ford F-150.
Powertrains for the latest version consist of either a petrol 5.6 L V8 or a turbocharged diesel 5.0 Cummins V8 for the XD variant. However, the diesel engine was dropped with the release of the 2020 refresh. This was mostly due to complaints surrounding the engine.
Transmission options have ranged from a 6-speed automatic that was exclusive to the diesel, a 7-speed automatic that was used between 2015 and 2019, and the latest 9-speed that is currently in production.
The first generation came with only a petrol 5.6 L V8 that was mated with a 5-speed automatic transmission.
