The Honda Legend was first unveiled in 1985. Since then, there have been a total of five generations to hit the various markets. The fifth and latest generation made its debut in 2014.

This would be the last generation of the model as Acura announced plans to discontinue the model in 2021. Acura also stated that the model would not have a successor.

It is sold under a number of other names. The most notable of these are the Acura RL, until it was replaced by the Acura RLX in 2014. Interestingly, the RLX Sport Hybrid and the fifth-generation models were nearly identical.

The Legend was sold as both a 2-door coupe and a 4-door saloon. However, the coupe was only available until 1995. The sedan typically faced competition from the likes of the Nissan Maxima, Audi A6, and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

Like the RLX, there were very few options for customers. Customers in the United Kingdom, for example, were offered the last generation of the Legend in just one trim level called the EX.

Similarly, each generation was limited to a petrol V6 since the release of the second generation in 1990. These did range from the 3.2 L found in the second generation through to the 3.7 L V6 found in the fourth iteration. The latest iteration reverted to a smaller 3.5 L V6.

As touched on, the final generation of the Legend featured the same hybrid powertrain found in its Acura twin.

Transmission options typically included automatic transmissions with gearboxes ranging from 4-speed to 6-speed.

The model has received some fairly solid praise over the years. One of the most notable moments was when it was awarded Japan’s Car of the Year 2004-2005.
