The Q50 was first released under Nissan’s luxury sub-brand, Infiniti, in 2011. Its release came with the discontinuation of its predecessor, the G40.
There has only been a single of the model to be released as of yet. However, it did receive notable facelifts in both 2016 and 2019.
In terms of Infinti’s current Q range, the model sits right in the middle, between the smaller Q30 and the largest sedan available, the Q70.
The Q50 has typically faced competition from other executive sedans. This usually includes various German offerings. The most notable of these include the Audi A4, BMW 3-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class. The Genesis G70 is another rival.
Infiniti offers four trim levels for the model currently. These consist of the base Pure, followed by Luxe, Sensory, and Red Sport 400. As the name suggests, the Red Sport 400 is a high-performance variant that features sportier styling and upgrades like better brakes and more a powerful engine to increase performance.
Powertrain options for the Q50 consist of various petrol engines and a single diesel engine that was offered briefly. Petrols range from a 2.0 L inline-4 through to a 3.7 L V6.
The diesel option was a turbocharged 2.2 L inline-4. Like a number of engines found in the Infiniti range, this is taken directly from Mercedes-Benz. This was eventually dropped from the lineup, though.
A hybrid 3.5 L V6 was also introduced for a short time in 2014, but was later discontinued in 2018.
These engines were mated with one of two 7-speed automatic transmissions, depending on when it was produced and the engine in question.
