The C1 first made its debut in 2005 as the smallest model in the Citroen lineup. The model then remained on the market until its discontinuation in 2022.

Despite being on the market for nearly two decades, it only received two generations. The latest of these made its debut in 2014.

During its time on the market, the first generation did receive two facelifts before its retirement. These hit the markets in 2009 and 2012.

Citroen offered a number of trim options, depending on the generation in question. For the second and final generation, these consisted of five options. These were the base Touch, Feel, Furio, Flair, and Flair Edition.

Other notable trims include the VIbe, Rhythm, Code, Cool, and Airplay. The latter two were Special Editions for the United Kingdom models.

The C1 fell into the city car class, which meant it faced rivals like the Fiat 500, Volkswagen Up!, and Suzuki Ignis.

Engine options were relatively streamlined for a model that was available for almost 20 years. The first generation offered a 1.0 L inline-3 petrol and a 1.4 L inline-4 diesel, while the second generation offered 1.0 L inline-3 and a 1.2 L inline-3. The diesel option was discontinued for the second generation and a new 1.0 L petrol was released in 2018.

These were typically mated with either a 5-speed manual or automatic transmission.

There was a fully-electric version sold for a time. The Citroen C1 ev’ie was released in 2009 and remained on the market until 2012.

Citroen had planned to release another generation, but this was scrapped. Instead, the EV Citroen Ami would act as the successor for the model as of 2020.
