The Mercedes Benz GL is classed as a full-size luxury SUV that first launched in 2006 and is now in its third generation of design.

It is the SUV version of the large sedan S-Class line that the German automobile manufacturer also makes.

Inside is three rows of seating for up to 7 passengers and a host of high-tech comfort and safety features like you would expect from a Mercedes-Benz.

Underneath is the same platform that is used on the smaller GLE SUV  that was called the M-Class before 2016.

Originally the GL (or GLS as Mercedes-Benz sometimes refers to it) was introduced to compete against the recently released Audi Q7, another 3-row full-size luxury SUV.

Sales have remained steady in its home continent of Europe since its introduction hovering around the 3,000 units per year range.

In the North American region, the sales have slowly climbed and sold around 5 times as many as in its home continent, perhaps due to the range of larger engine sizes.

For 2019 a Mercedes-Mayback GLS was released, taking advantage of the recently acquired Mayback brand by the Mercedes-Benz company.
