The 508 is the moniker given to a French-made family car created by Peugeot.

Available as both a saloon and an estate, the 508 has always bridged the gap between medium and large vehicle categories.

Peugeot brought the 508 line out in 2011 with the introduction of the sedan first, and then the Saloon (for which they added ‘SW’ to the ‘508’ presumably to stand for station wagon).

Although not a clear replacement for the older vehicles, the 407 and 607 both bore similar attributes to this new model and so was expected to sell well.

Sharing the platform with the Citroen C5, both cars were made together at the same Rennes Plant in France and at the Wuhan assembly plant in China; both vehicles were ultimately the product of a partnership formed between Citroen and Peugeot.

The first generation of 508s (and 508 SWs) was sold onwards from 2010 after leaked images of the vehicles appeared on the internet.

Launching at the Paris Motor Show, the 508s shared attributes of the Volkswagen Passat's Bluemotion engineering; a system that improved upon fuel efficiency and reduced emissions by making changes to things like the engines, gearboxes and overall aerodynamics of both vehicles.

Boasting a huge fuel tank, the 508 could travel up to 1,017 miles on a single refill.

Unveiling the second generation at the Geneva Motor Show in 2018, the new models had a 1.6-liter PureTech turbo-charged petrol engine with the addition of 3 turbo diesel variants.

A number of safety features were installed, like speed sign reading, road detection, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and windscreen cameras.

When taking part in the Euro NCAP safety tests, the 508 received 5 stars overall with a 97% score for children and a huge 90% given to adult safety.
